Other Ten Percent 5/31/13

May 31 2013

So I got a lot accomplished today but that meant that when I got home I had neither the time nor the energy to deal with the fact that iMovie is kind of awful at letting you record your own audio for stuff you’re making in iMovie. I’m going to devote most of tomorrow to creating a video for OTP next Monday but since we’re at the end of the month and it’s been quite a while since I gave you guys any links I thought I’d pass along everything I found interesting from my RSS reader with minimal commentary.
YouTube Adds Slow Motion Effect For YouTube Videos
Well this should be useful for my David Lynch generator idea where you just take slow motion black and white footage and play Rockabilly over it until everybody has nightmares.

Postmates, An On-Demand Courier Service for NYC, SF, and Seattle
Man, if I was still living in New York and vaugely depressed when this came into being I basically never would have left my old East Williamsbush apartment ever again.

The first one of these about writing stories over really long periods that you constantly update is deeply interesting to me.

Social steganography: how teens smuggle meaning past the authority figures in their lives
Man, how much fun does it have to be to be the hip young anthropologist that gets to tell all the old ones how fucking with adults using texting works?

29, Man Documents Every Day of His 29th Year in Video Montage
Ugh, I thought we agreed last time somebody did this exact bit using this exact song that using All My Friends in a montage of your life was like picking Chun-Li in Street Fighter and then just pressing kick constantly. Sure it works, and it might not TECHNICALLY be cheating, but everybody still thinks you’re a dick.

Prosthetic tentacle
Man, I wonder how long it’s going to be before we’re cyborg enough to just be fine with artificial limbs that discard traditional limb shapes because they’re kinda stupid and there are way cooler/more functional alternate limbs we could be using on the regular. Oh wait WE’RE ALREADY DOING THAT.

Kickstarting a detailed plan to rob five banks simultaneously
The fact that somebody is managing to get paid for planning elaborate bank heists they don’t actually plan on committing is making me re-evaluate my life choices in a way almost nothing else ever has.

GIFTY, A Small Camera That Captures and Prints Animated GIFs as Tiny Flip Books
Woah woah woah. I mean this is cool but what’s up with this inkless paper stuff? This is getting shockingly close to the kind of technology that can pull off my old “slightly psychic business card” idea where you can print out business cards one at a time with whatever job title is appropriate for the moment.

Celebrating Maru the Cat’s Sixth Birthday With a Maru Supercut
This video makes me sad because realizing Maru is six means realizing Maru will one day grow old and die. It makes me happy though because it has Maru in it.

This has been the link I scroll down to that lets me know I’ve run out of new entries for a few days now and every time I see it I think it’s really cool. I still don’t quite know what the hell it means though. I really want to know but I’ve got no clue at the moment.
