Other Ten Percent 5/2/13

May 02 2013

I have been so productive the rest of this week I am genuinely unsure what to do with my time today besides play some video games. I wish that was bragging but it’s more like I genuinely feel weird about it. I’m not even sure what video games to play so I’ll probably just end up trying to not suck at Binding of Isaac a bit more.
Natalie Portman to play Lady Macbeth… with Michael Fassbender
Yeah okay I’m in. Is it just me or are we having a TON of good Shakespeare adaptations on screen/tv lately after a relatively light period of activity on that front?

Giant Days for May 1st 2013
So John Allison has been taking a break from Bad Machinery to visit Scarygoround characters for a little bit and this is the first storyline following characters that are new but…friends with old scarygoround characters? I dunno. Point is it’s funny.

marty mcfly is asked to lift a ten-ton weight. he struggles, but the weight doesn’t move. “this is heavy,” he says, pointing to the weight. he leaves shortly afterwards.

How Much Time You Should Spend Automating a Routine Task
I think the one thing that truly weirds me out about all of the brilliant programmers I find myself near because I live in San Francisco and I’m dating a UX designer is that they would all totally ignore this chart because they find automation its own reward.

Augmented Reality: Blackhat exploits for Google Glass
I predict “you can hack Google Glass” will be the new “people wear this in BATHROOMS” once everybody figures out nobody cares about that one (you have to say “Glass, take a picture” OUT LOUD to get photos on the thing. If somebody says that while wearing Google Glass and staring at you in the bathroom the social contract problem isn’t with Google Glass).

Historical maps overlaid on Google Maps
Now if somebody could replace ALL of Google Maps with this I’d be interested.
