Other Ten Percent 1/28/13

Jan 28 2013

So much comedy. Seriously I am so glad I didn’t have a show tonight because 4 sketchfest shows in three days was probably enough. All of them were awesome by the way. Thrilling Adventure Hour and Paul F. Thompkins with Friends Real and Fake were special standouts. I also didn’t get much writing done but that’s because I was kind of out of it all day. Hopefully I’ll do better here on Monday and writing a show a week and editing a show a week seems like a decent pace actually. Let’s see if I can keep it up once the episodes aren’t 11 minutes long.

How casinos fight cheaters
I’d kind of like to see a heist movie entirely from the point of view of a the casino. It can be called The House Always Wins and it can star William H. Macy or something. Come on Hollywood this is gold.

YOLO by The Lonely Island on Saturday Night Live
This may be the most I’ve ever liked Kendrick Lamar but it is without a doubt the most I’ve ever liked Adam Levine.

“I couldn’t really begin to say why, but in the process of working myself up to buying an iPad I…”
I can’t say I ever went on this kind of a jag with it but unboxing videos ARE strangely hypnotic. There’s an entire strange world of guys showing you the thing they just bought. Also ladies but that does not tend to be their new tablet.

Did I cut the Mad Men Season 6 premiere date story last week? Whatever, even if I didn’t this is still totally worth posting. Everybody here looks awesome.

The challenges of conversational journalism
There’s just a ton of great Kottke content in my RSS reader today and I’m not sure why he’s on such a roll. Whatever. Not sure I totally care about all the journalism stuff here but the experts he cites give some really interesting commentary about their respective topics.

Man, I cannot wait until we’ve finally solved all the registration problems with Augmented Reality because things are going to get really weird really fast.

The implications of Amazon’s razor-thin margins
Both this and the next article end up being about maximizing efficiency in business which I find fascinating when the business in question isn’t one that I actually work in.

A history of the mic drop, with a surprising origin
Yeah I didn’t even need the surprising origin an in-depth history of the mic drop is pretty much going to show up on OTP no matter what it turns out the history actually is there.

First trailer for Mood Indigo is pure Michel Gondry dream madness
Okay this is so Gondry I almost think it’s a parody. Also is it possible for Audrey Tatou to be typecast as the incarnation of a Duke Elington tune? Because if so then she totally has been.
