Other Ten Percent 1/23/13

Jan 23 2013

Guys! Amazing productivity tip! Force yourself to not do whatever fun thing you wanted to do today until you get all the hard stuff done first. Lifehacks you guys! This amazing tip worked so well there’s a full first draft of the Children’s Hospital script up at Million Words today that I wrote on Monday. It’s not anywhere near done (the first three scene don’t QUITE match up with the concepts I went with for the rest of it) and I’ve got to edit it down in general next week but it’s written. Today I’m basically done with all my PCWorld work for the week. Also I found all these links for you.

Skull ice cube maker
So these are awesome and I really hope Smuggler’s Cove starts using them basically exclusively.

Daughter of Google Chairman Eric Schmidt Documents Their Trip to North Korea
We now live in an age where the two best in depth reports on North Korea I’ve seen in the last few years come from Vice magazine and the daughter of a Google exec.

Chasecam, Chasing Tennis Balls in a Pool From the Dog’s Point of View
Finally, we have the technology to know what it feels like to be a dog. Unsurprisingly it is awesome and impossible to concentrate on anything at the same time.

Malia Obama Photobombs Her Parents Kissing at the Inauguration
Okay we can all agree on all sides of the political spectrum that Sasha and Malia are adorable and awesome right? I mean if you’re an Obama and you DON’T have a Y Chromosome people basically have got shit to complain about to you.

today i am making a comic
Okay so cool dinosaur comic but WHAT?!?! 3 of my favorite webcomics authors are teaming up to write a comic about Galaga? What is this even? That’s one of those things I read in a dream and then wake up and figure out that that’s stupid and could never happen.

So this is what time zones look like in Antarctica
Man, I wonder what the conception of time looks like for a sentient alien race that developer near the planet’s poles…I wonder if that could even easily happen since it wouldn’t exactly be temperate there…wait did I just figure out where Elder Gods come from?

Would It Be A War Crime To Use Biologically Enhanced Soldiers?
Probably technically but that doesn’t seem to stop us with a lot of other stuff (Drones y’all! Drones!) so let’s read this story because Biologically Enhanced Soldiers and international law are both super interesting.

Emerging Personal 3D Printer Business Patterns
Oh hey, Fabbaloo just explained that stuff I was dimly understanding about the 3d printing market way more clearly AND interestingly than I’ve been doing it over the past few months.

12th Annual SF Sketchfest, The San Francisco Comedy Festival
Guys! Sketchfest is amazing. Did I already do this speech here or was it on Facebook? Nikki and I have tickets to like 10 different shows from this year’s festival but if you’re going to be in SF the ticket you should buy is the Sketchfest at Nightlife ticket. You get to wander around a science museum and look at penguins and stuff while drinking and that’s just the REGULAR NIGHTLIFE. The special Sketchfest edition involves doing all that while 5-6 different famous comedians record their podcasts including Tig Notaro who you may know from one of the best stand-up sets anybody has ever seen.

Flightradar24, A Service That Tracks Air Traffic on a Live Map
I know it’s just that the icons aren’t to scale but something about seeing all the air traffic in the US at once is pretty terrifying.
