Other Ten Percent 12/12/12/

Dec 12 2012

Guys! 12/12/12. Probably not going to see a date like that again unless we figure out how to upload ourselves into sweet robot bodies or something. I mean we still have 12/13/14 to look forward to before dates stop being mathematically interesting but nonetheless: end of an era. Thankfully not the era of lin…you know what guys even I’m sick of that premise. Finally and completely I am bored with ending this with the word links every day. So you are finally free of waiting for me to say links. Okay maybe it’ll last until the new year. But we’re almost free of links.

Earth’s oldest trees are almost unfathomably ancient

Guys I…listen there is no way to avoid this issue right now. Trees are weird. I know. I KNOW. But seriously can we just take a moment to not tell me how they aren’t and actually read about it because if you just give it a second THEY ABSOLUTELY ARE.

Woman Covers the Stanley Steemer Jingle in Many Musical Styles

I kinda can’t believe that people think this is a viral video for Stanley Steemer. First it’s way too clever for them and second this is so obviously an extension of the natural thing that everybody does where they sing stupid jingles to themselves in different musical style…this isn’t a universal is it? Oh God I revealed way too much again didn’t I?

Visions of the future (2030, to be precise), courtesy of U.S. spies

I’ve grown super duper cynical about predictions of the future from technologists because they usually have a bias and it’s usually a business bias about how they want things to work out. This seems interesting to me because it seems to be 1)the bias of spies instead which is automatically way better and 2)their bias of a future they DON’T want because then they’re super in demand and ummmm that future sounds awesome.

Mic Check, Mic Check of the Day

Oh hey it’s been and a year and a half or so but I think we have another iteration of what dance looks like when you digitize it and then push it back into the real world and digitize it again. Live soundtracking of robotic dance moves

A Hauntological Literature

Warren Ellis on hauntology actually manages to make hauntology sound interesting to me but I’m not sure if that’s just his magic powers at work or what.

Do we live in a computer simulation?

Man I really wish this would come back and “prove” we live in a simulation (we don’t live in a simulation) mostly because I would love to see everybody freak out and totally refuse to ever believe it no matter how many times we double checked it.

The Best Sugar Cookies?

Hey can somebody that’s NOT on a diet make these and tell me if they’re actually the best sugar cookies because I would like to live vicariously through other people’s deserts I guess. I guess I’m that guy now.

So I’m not sure why people aren’t loving the new Big Boi album because while it isn’t QUITE as good as the last one it’s still in my top 5 rap albums of the year (Sorry Nas, #6 isn’t that bad) if you don’t have Spotify or even the slight modicum of free energy it would take to get ahold of the album illegally however you can also listen to the new Sufjan mixtape where he thinks maybe you didn’t notice that his 5 disc Christmas album was him trollin’ you so perhaps you’d like to hear Das Racist do a remix of it.
