Other Ten Percent 10/22/12

Oct 22 2012

Oh man, low key weekends, I’ve missed those. All I did this weekend was plan the new XCOM game (which is as fantastic as everybody tells me the original one I never played is) and plan for Dance Party at the End of the World. Oh hey that’s coming up isn’t it (it is, it’s this weekend). I also found these links for you.

The crowd psychology of Grand Central Station
Back when I used to go to Grand Central a lot to visit mom and dad in New Paltz I used to think about this sort of thing all the time.

Realistic Pokemon Video Game Character Illustrations by R.J. Palmer
This is the second best pokemon drawing tumblr I’ve seen all week. It is by far the most terrifying one however.

Kanye Wes Anderson
Soooooooooooooooo this is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen and more than ever before I’m really disappointed that I didn’t come up with this myself.

Constructable: Interactive Laser-Cutting
So there’s actually really limited applications for this but as a magic trick piece of tech I’m well and truly impressed with it.

Twitter, Facebook, and old new media
Not sure this is EXACTLY right but the basic problem that institutions have online is correct. I think it’s probably more accurate to say that people read for personality on the net rather than that people read for actual specific people.

Unlocking Your Inner 007 of the Day
I almost wanted to dislike this because this is CLEARLY some Roger Moore bond shit and unless the tone is changing A LOT for Skyfall that doesn’t really work. Then the pane of glass happened.

Everyone’s talking about weird twitter
So now I am also talking about weird twitter. To me it looks a lot like the 1950s when TV started converting from theater with a camera in front of it into forms that ONLY worked on TV. Weird Twitter jokes are jokes that aren’t just made for Twitter but function there specifically.

“A single mysterious computer program that placed orders — and then subsequently canceled them — made…”
Okay so we’re all agreed that there are at least 3 AI supercomputers on earth that are secretly manipulating everything and trying to prod at us to figure out “what is life?” Right?
