Other Ten Percent 9/12/12

Sep 12 2012

Man so I don’t know if it’s trying to divide my brain to work on new writing projects or what but I am NOT killing it in terms of producing stuff today. Of course neither is the internet today which will necessitate 2 off format links at the end but to that I say WHATEVER. Anyway, here are those links I was talking about before.
Is It Bespoke?
Oh sweet it’s another post about menswear I feel okay posting in OTP. The nexus of the conservative philosophy of traditional menswear and the hacker ethos of “let’s just do this shit to see what happens” you see in personal/computer aided fabrication of all stripes is pretty much the most interesting thing in the world of clothing to me right now.

Natural history and the rights of women
Wow this is singlehandedly more interesting than all the commentary I’ve ever heard on Frankenstein before and I’ve read that thing in an academic context three separate times.

Mark Dery on “Aesthetics after 9/11”
So being in the weird position of having seen 9/11 entirely via TV while knowing a lot of people that actually physically saw it the divide between “it’s like a movie” and “nope, not really at all” is pretty fucking stark.

So now for the two bonus links. First a nice new aesthetic collection of broken kindles that look weird and then here is an awesome (maybe) and weird (certainly) immersive theater thing I’m planning to go to on Thursday or Friday night.
