Other Ten Percent 9/5/12

MiFi connection is getting increasingly weird/spotty of late. Luckily we should FINALLY have an internet connection again tomorrow. For now though this is going to be an abbreviated OTP again as I’m writing it up on a connection that keeps dropping out as I wait for Nikki to get home from the dentist. Oh hey look it’s links from the internet.
Hear The xx’s New Album, ‘Coexist’
The new xx album is interesting because basically every review I can find of it features people stating that it is an objectively good album that they have no reason to complain about but that they don’t like that much because it didn’t change up enough from their first album. The weird thing is that I think they’re right.

Processing 2.0 arrives
I haven’t had time to dig into this yet but I love how much of a hipster Bruce Sterling is about it in this blog post.

Ask an Archivist, Part Three
You know I skipped the second one because I thought I “got the bit” after the first one but it turns out these are playing it super straight and just asking archivists stuff is really interesting.

Time to ditch the job title?
The answer to that question is “yeah obviously since nobody has jobs anyway.”

Demonic sigils in handy form
I know Cory Doctorow is being sarcastic but I can think of a half dozen fiction projects these would be really useful for.

Watch the entire pilot for J.J. Abrams’ Revolution right now [Revolution]
I have not done this yet. I probably will poke at it tomorrow. Somehow I’m not getting the vibe that this is going to break his post-Lost TV slump but maybe I’m wrong.

Profile of the Cloud Atlasing Wachowskis
I have little/no faith in the Wachowskis at this point and the times when this veers into really lionizing them kinda makes me roll my eyes but it’s still fascinating to see ANYTHING about them and I think I’ll actually be going to see Cloud Atlas because it’s basically guaranteed to be either an interesting failure or a laudable narrative exercise that isn’t quite as smart/ground-breaking as it thinks it is.
