Battlefield: WORTH
I guess we’re starting with webcomics now? I dunno I kind of like that this gets rid of their special status as some sort of bizarre unique one-off. Especially since some days I would like to publish more than one webcomic. Today it’s just the latest Wonderella though which makes an extremely good if depressing point about alien overlords.

Gauss, brother of Stuxnet and Flame.
Why do people thing computer security is boring? Because if you stop treating it like its a boring subject matter for even five seconds then it is fascinating and TERRIFYING.

Check out the world’s most beautiful libraries [Architecture]
I am not really in love with all of these but I am pretty much going to go with any post about awesome looking libraries.

High velocity trading rendered visceral
High velocity trading continues to be incredibly weird and interesting. I think it’s the only subject matter where I consistently think about some crazy ass thing like “Man they probably trade so fast it can go crazy without them even knowing like those Amazon price setting bots but in charge of millions of dollars” and then I’ll just write that off as TOO CRAZY but it’ll turn out to be totally true.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Adventure Diary [Books]
Is it just me or were authors generally way more interesting people until like 50 years ago? Is this something I can blame academia for or is something else going on here?

TrapWire: Wikileaks reveals ex-CIA agents running a face-recognition profiling company that surveils NYC subways, London stock exchange, Vegas casinos and more
I felt the need to post this even though I do not find it surprising or upsetting so much as kind of inevitable and bad at what it is trying to do. I am pretty interested in all of the methods to fuck with this system now that we know about it.

Time Wars by K-Punk
I didn’t really get a chance to read all of this but what I did read at least seemed like it would end up being the interesting kind of wrong if it went batshit later on. Maybe it’s just me but I’ve been seeing a lot of “interesting kind of wrong” articles lately. I read one that had a really interesting theory about technology, state control, and the economy that said interesting things about tech before basically abandoning that and just sort of doing a crazy libertarian rant about how post-materialists are just rebelling against taxes.

Kinetic tornado-proof houses could duck underground [Video]
I pretty much want to live in one of these because I’ve secretly always wanted my house to be attached to a giant elevator since I was 4.

Aram Bartholl’s DVD Dead Drop
Soooo New York friends, I would really appreciate you guys going and finding this thing and then maybe bringing me a DVD the next time you come out to San Francisco to visit. I would maybe buy you an extra drink or two if you did that.
