Other Ten Percent 4/23/10

Apr 23 2010

I forgot what day of the week it was and almost forgot to do one of these tonight. But then I was like “man I have a lot of tabs open considering it’s only Friday…HOLY CRAP IT’S THURSDAY.” Then I wrote this post. As they said in my high-school: “cool story bro.” Now for internets.

Senior Cheerleaders in Japan: Rah Rah Rah?

I feel like this is somehow Lucy’s doing but I have no idea why or how.

Bright Wood’s Collection of Illuminated Chairs and Tables

I’m adding chairs with built in lights to my list of things that will never be awesome but should be. It’s now in the proud company of self-tying shoe laces and those shoes that have built in roller-skates in them.

Showtime: Sonar by Renaud Hallée

This is just cool and worth watching.

Air/Port a Floating City in the Arctic Circle

The self explanatory corollary to my list of things that exist and are rad but will never be considered awesome publicly is my list of things that everyone would find awesome but will never actually exist. A floating trade city in the northwest passage that’s finally been exposed by global warming definitely fits in that second category.

The Last Zipper Man Standing
http://kottke.org/10/04/the-last-zipper-man-standing
I was going to say that everybody I know who likes clothing should go make friends with this guy but the more I read about him the more I think that you should go make friends with him even if you don’t like clothing.

Zombie Nightstand Could Use More Bullets
http://io9.com/5521661/zombie-nightstand-could-use-more-bullets
It’s getting to the point in Other Ten Percent where I periodically get paranoid that I’ve already posted something but have no simple way of checking that. Anyway, in my constant war with half the people I know over who is the most prepared for zombies, this is both literally and figuratively my newest weapon.

Dustbot Comes When You Call It , to Pick Up Your Garbage and Take It Away
http://www.popsci.com/gadgets/article/2010-04/roaming-robot-garbagemen-may-arrive-your-neighborhood
I cannot imagine how this ends up being energy efficient but it’s got a high rate of awesome vs. CO2 emissions.

How to Make a Dalek Cake Explained to You Mad Men Style
http://io9.com/5522216/how-to-make-a-dalek-cake-explained-to-you-mad-men-style
Guys, this is an honest to God instructional video from the BBC from the 1960’s about how to make a cake shaped like a trash can with a plunger sticking out of it because then it looks like an alien from Dr. Who. The mere existence of this makes me so happy I can’t even tell you. Everyone should watch this no matter how little they care about Dr. Who.

It’s the musical choice that really takes it to a whole other level.
