Other Ten Percent 2010 Link Guide

Dec 24 2010

Strangely this is the first post I’m doing via iPad because it’s mostly me copy/pasting links I loved from the year so the content is a reblog of a reblog and easy to enter in even on a virtual keyboard.

Well this is adorable on so many levels.

Oh God Feminist Hulk is the best idea. “HULK LIKE HULK MUSCLES, NOT IN MACHO WAY, BUT TO DEFY CARTESIAN DUALITY THAT SEVER BODY FROM MIND. HULK FIND BODY’S WISDOM BEAUTIFUL.”

M. Night Shyamalan Finally Made a Comedy
http://io9.com/5576076/m-night-shyamalan-finally-made-a-comedy
Oh man, I’d been debating if the reviews of the new M.I.A. album or The Last Airbender were more brutal and then this came out and answered my question definitively. This review is so brutal that it actually puts last year’s Tranformers 2 review to shame. This review is so brutal I cut this review of the new Twilight movie that straight out calls that movie racist in favor of this one. This review is so brutal that if I let myself genuinely do a GOD DAAAAAAMN for it I might never stop.

Kirk/Spock Musical Slash Fiction

Kirk/Spock music videos are a meme so good they make Ke$ha bearable, I think that may make them the greatest force for good I’ve yet encountered on earth. Also even if you can’t stand the Ke$ha one there’s like 10 other ones here and they’re all great. Even if they didn’t include my personal favorite.

Arthur C. Clarke, Alvin Toffler, and Margaret Mead on Man’s Future

I did not actually have time to listen to this today so apologies if it sucks. But how could it possibly?

Comedy can basically pack it in, nothing will ever be funnier than this website.

Kanye West, Media Cyborg

This may be my favorite bit of media theory I’ve read all year, and a great explanation of what social media should actually look like when we decouple it from the really disturbing market-speak that’s taken it over. It also gets across something I’ve been trying to put into words about what it means to be a pop star right now way better than I ever could. Which is weird because the trick is to make them into science fictional figures and you’d think that would have occurred to me. Also, creative project material all up ins. [via Warren Ellis]

F**K YOU

I don’t know why on earth they feel the need to make an “official video” after this. It’s a new Cee-Lo song with an awesome text based video. If “viral” actually is a thing online then this qualifies. Anyway, just in case you didn’t guess this is probably NSFW but it’s still awesome.

A Brief Conversation With Someone Smarter Than Us: Matt Fraction on the Return of Casanova
http://www.gq.com/entertainment/books/201006/casanova-matt-fraction-comic-preview-q-and-a?currentPage=1
So I was looking at the GQ website this weekend because…shut up that’s why. Anyway while I was there I found this interview with Matt Fraction. Matt Fraction’s kinda become my new favorite comic writer now that Brian K. Vaughn basically isn’t writing any comics anymore. (the last issue of Ex Machina comes out…next week?) Anyway after that he has nothing coming out that I know of. But he is shopping an idea for a post apocalyptic heist movie around hollywood so apparently after years of being a better writer than me he’s decided to be a better genre-author-who-never-actually-writes-anything than me too) Fraction wrote The Five Fists of Science which was the crazy Nikola Tesla and Mark Twain’s Giant robot comic, he’s writing Iron Man and it’s super awesome, and now they’re re-publishing his crazy-ass spy comic that’s essentially about Nick Fury’s black-sheep son. Anyway none of that is why I posted this really. I’m mostly posting it because this interview is INSANE. Like it’s supposed to be promoting his comic but it goes on four 12 pages and Fraction discusses working on a video for Kanye, what he hopes for out of Lady Gaga’s career the classic Stones/Beatles dilemma and that’s just in the musical subsection. I’m never really sure the effect it has on you guys when I’m all WORDS WORDS WORDS about something but my hope is that you’ll click on that link and read this even though it’s kinda long and not really tags most of you are that interested in. Seriously, this is my favorite thing I’ve read on the internet in a while.
