Other Ten Percent 11/23/10

Nov 23 2010

I hate the MUNI with a fiery passion and I want a bike so I can never give them money again. Seriously waking up early and just walking to/from work. It’s only an hour each way and on days like today that actually saves me time on my commute.

Trace Modeler
I just think this is pretty despite me having no idea of what functional use it could have.

*Comics* *Lovecraft*
Lovecraftian Tintin Adventures
I wish these were real. [via Boingboing]

*Biology* *Science Fiction*
The Horrors of Evolution: the 10 Freakiest Animals of Speculative Biology
Speculative biologist is the job title of the week by the way.

Inevitability of Prophecy Among Models of New York
“Yet realism is not a goal that games should really be striving for. Leave that to the CAD programs and the satellite maps. Instead games should explore the aspects of Manhattan that make less sense, like its dreams, or the models of the city that represent it not as it is, but as we are able to explore it, thanks to the mutational potentials of digital simulation. ” I love you BLDGBlog

Kinect Hacking
I’ve been looking for a good round-up post of Kinect Hacks because it’s apparently not going away any time soon and seems to be advancing from boring proof of concept stuff to mind-blowing demos at record speed.

This is Funny you Should Watch it of the Day
If this works I am going to be so pissed.

*Movies* *Literature*
Boats Against the Current
WOAH WOAH WOAH. Why did nobody tell me that Baz Luhrmann was doing a Gatsby movie with Carey Mulligan as Daisy? That is so awesome I am willing to forgive the movie a lot of things. Like casting DiCaprio as Gatsby and…you know…half of Luhrmann’s filmography.

The Heart and the Bottle
Seriously, if we can just edge past making it a nightmare hellscape of famine and natural disaster, being a kid is going to be awesome in 5 to 10 years.

*Interior Design* *Booze*
Decadent Decanters
I needed a last entry for today and these looked pretty.
