Other Ten Percent 11/26/13

Nov 26 2013

The new methodology has made it kinda difficult to figure out what I should cut from OTP. I had 14 entries just now for this, my second OTP I wrote today and I could have just rolled four of those over into my next one. In the end I decided twenty “a day” is a pretty good amount of entries to shoot for and didn’t force a few of the entries that I didn’t have much to say about. This has been “how the sausage is made” with Other Ten Percent.

I don’t know when New Aesthetic decided to do BLDGblog’s job but I am not complaining.

Scouting The Remains of Brooklyn’s Incredible Paramount Movie Theatre
“New York wastes better architecture on a college gym than you’ve got in your whole town” is a pretty good burn.

Bill Gates and his plans to improve the world
Linking to Bruce Sterling instead of the Bill Gates article itself because of course I am. But also because I totally agree (because of course I do) that there’s something kinda delightfully old fashioned about how Gates is handling all this. You’d think the fact that magnanimous billionaires have a pretty shitty track record of saving the world would discourage magnanimous billionaires in the world saving business but here’s Bill Gates just chugging along like he’s giving the climactic speech in an Aaron Sorkin movie so everybody will listen to the righteous white dude again.

Yearbook Photos of Heavy Metal and Rock Musicians
Who is your favorite? My favorite is Gene Simmons because while he looks totally unlike a guy who will go on to form KISS he looks like a man who is STARING DOWN DESTINY. He knows what the future holds for him and he is kinda weirded out but unafraid.

Short Errol Morris film on Benoit Mandelbrot
This is one of those things I think I’ve posted before but contains too many search terms that I’ve use ALL THE TIME for me to make sure so I’m just going to assume it’s worth seeing again if you’ve seen it before and be fine with that.
