Other Ten Percent 10/29/13

Oct 29 2013

Did you guys know One Tree Hill ran for nine seasons? I learned this from the AV Club’s list of unlikely slasher movie episodes of shows. Come to make sure they use that Boy Meets World episode, stay for the fact that One Tree Hill had THREE SEPARATE EPISODES about crazy stalkers trying to kill members of the main cast. They’re just CW good looking stalkers. If you’re that into them there’s at least three other people that look exactly like them in that show alone.

Riker?
This is maybe the stupidest stupid website trick I’ve ever seen and yet I love it with all my heart. Somewhere, Ryan North is shedding a single tear he didn’t do this first.

SNL gives Wes Anderson the quirkiest home invasion movie ever
So this was the only thing really worth watching on SNL this week besides the musical guest numbers from Janele Monae and HEY io9 has those too behind this link.

3D Scans Obtained By Drones
Man if it turns out drones are the solution to the Augmented Reality registration problem then for once the future will be exactly as weird as sci-fi predicted.

Contemporary feudal computing
Soooo I’m really just linking this for the insight that the problems with the internet today are the result of people listening to the utopian visions of the 90s and not ignoring them which is a lesson I think it’s going to take another tech industry collapse to actually drive home to anybody.

Welcome to Lifehacker’s Fourth Annual Evil Week
Thanks random guy in the comments for your delightful insight that evil is actually just a social construction. I’m sure you’re super fun at parties and always own up to your mistakes. Anyway this is a great excuse for Lifehacker writers to get their editors to sign off on stories they’d normally be like “boy, I dunno that might get us in trouble” about. Which means Lifehacker will probably have some useful insights this week.

Lou Reed tributes
The news broke like five minutes after I wrote up Monday’s OTP. I thought about going back and including it but there honestly wasn’t a particularly great individual link about it until later that evening. Here’s a round up of quite a few of the best ones.

Star Wars bloopers
Like the original trilogy itself this would be better with Yakity Sax but isn’t that bad on its own.

This Map Shows State-by-State Penalties for Texting While Driving
Man, don’t fuck around with your cell phone in Alaska. Also, and I guess we knew this after the Sarah Palin thing, but they’ll just vote for whatever up there won’t they?

Mexican Standoff, A Comedy Sketch Full of Surprises Starring Freddie Wong and ‘Key & Peele’
Wow this escilates nicely and then, even more impressively, manages to idle at a level of batshit crazy for the backhalf that I don’t see many internet videos comfortable enough to pull off.
