Other Ten Percent 10/24/13

Oct 24 2013

Everybody’s backstory for the party is now finished but as a result I’m kinda burned out on this whole thing with the words that Is string together to make sentences and so on. Don’t expect a whole ton of commentary today. In fact for a lot of these I might just skip the whole thing.

Wes Anderson’s Star Wars reference
Since both of the examples here are from Life Aquatic I’m really hoping somebody makes a case that that whole movie is secretly just a retelling of the original Star Wars trilogy somehow.

Could practical movie effects make a comeback thanks to 3-D printing?
I love io9 and Charlie Jane so I want to make it clear that what I’m about to say isn’t supposed to be a huge diss on them but it kinda seems like the io9 equivalent of the law that says all news story that ends in a question have the answer “no.” is that all io9 stories that ask a question about the future have the answer “it already has.” Here’s a story from last year for instance where 3D printing has taken over practical effects in Bond movies.

How Apple makes their high-precision computing machines
I doubt I will be able to afford Apple’s new $3000 high-end trashcans filled with absurd amounts of computing power but I can afford to watch how they’re assembled.
