Other Ten Percent 9/27/13

Sep 27 2013

Hey so it’s Thursday afternoon and Kanye West just went insane on Twitter but this time it was about Jimmy Kimmel instead of rugs or whatever so we’ll see how that ends up playing out over the next three days of Buzzfeed articles I imagine. I was thinking of doing a stand-up routine made entirely of untopical comedy like I have a 300 sandwhiches bit that I don’t do for the next six months and spend the first 45 seconds of it explaining what the hell 300 Sandwhiches was to everybody in the audience. …My only goal in Standup is to have everybody in the audience hate me. They see through my clever ruse and just ignore me though so…that’s fun. Wow, this terrible bit about a standup bit got really heavy about the like one time I’ve ever done standup all of the sudden. Here are internet links.

Someone in Chicago used a FTL drive to play the market (or cheated)
I kind of want to live in the world where this ISN’T just explained by some asshole cheating the market and somebody did just set up a large scale physics experiment to trade on the market a TINY bit faster.

Manyland: a virtual world where you draw stuff and it becomes real
Oh, MMO Skribblenauts. That could be cool…it could also be a total disaster but I could imagine a version of this where that world actually ends up being fun.

Apocalyptic short film shows us Paris with all the people “deleted”
It’s weird how nobody does the apocalyptic cities with too many people in them since that’s the apocalypse we’re actually going to get.

This supercut of technology breaking down is cathartic and beautiful
I ended up cutting this yesterday because I had all those longreads to talk about but of all the tings I ended up cutting this was the only one I really regretted not showing to you guys so I’m glad it showed up in my RSS reader again. Also I can’t tell if I’m just resigned to supercuts now or if they’re genuinely getting better. It feels like there’s a narrative throughline to these that shows more artful editing than they had a year ago.

You can’t vaccinate an octopus
Sure this is just an interesting fun fact NOW but when the inevitable war with all the weird sea creatures comes along it’ll be known as HOW WE SAVED THE WORLD.

It’s amazing how much of exploraton really was driven by “naw guys I’m like 90% certain there’s a magic city over the next hill so let’s keep going.

We’re all still reeling from the loss of our totally weird illusions about the nature of Horse Ebooks and the world needs a hero. That hero is a new parody account that makes fun of how insufferably hip Vice tries to make itself sound in headlines. If this hero turns out to be a marketing stunt from Vice though all bets are off. Nothing is real anymore and you can basically assume that all Twitter accounts are actually just elaborate “self-branding” efforts for somebody’s art showcase in Brooklyn. Including your own.
