Happy Halloween everybody! What are we all going as? I’m going as a dude that’s been too exhausted from throwing an elaborate theme party for the past 8 years to really celebrate Halloween but I’m really looking forward to next year when I can channel the “way too much effort I expend on stupid crap every October” category of my life into an elaborate costume.

Happy 75th anniversary of Orson Wells terrifying the state of New Jersey everybody. I’ve had that fun fact in my back pocket for so long it seemed like a shame to do nothing with it but now that that’s out of the way I can finally back-burner the War of the Worlds obsession after a few io9 articles, almost a decade of parties and a graduate degree. Oh hey, I actually did get 10 things for this this morning. That’s great. I was kinda hoping it was all going to be comics or halloween based entries today based on the first two entries but I abandoned that pretty quickly.

Did you guys know One Tree Hill ran for nine seasons? I learned this from the AV Club’s list of unlikely slasher movie episodes of shows. Come to make sure they use that Boy Meets World episode, stay for the fact that One Tree Hill had THREE SEPARATE EPISODES about crazy stalkers trying to kill members of the main cast. They’re just CW good looking stalkers. If you’re that into them there’s at least three other people that look exactly like them in that show alone.

So now that the party’s over I’ve got a lot more time on my hands along with a hashtag with quite a few pictures from the party and a slow motion video of me setting a drink on fire. So that’s a solid outcome. Anyway I also have all of these links I can show you.

Welp, I spent today doing four separate grocery runs to get the rest of the stuff I needed for the dance party sooooooo here is an OTP with no commentary because I’m pretty much out of energy completely and I’ve still got a full day of party prep to go. Woooooooo.

Everybody’s backstory for the party is now finished but as a result I’m kinda burned out on this whole thing with the words that Is string together to make sentences and so on. Don’t expect a whole ton of commentary today. In fact for a lot of these I might just skip the whole thing. Continue Reading »

A good day for Dance Party work. I think this year’s party is going to turn out really great which is nice because I’m also, finally, getting kinda bored with the concept. I think it’ll be good to take a break from it after this year probably not going to pick it up again until the 80th anniversary of the War of the Worlds broadcast in 2018 or I get rich/famous enough to have somebody else scale it up for me. Whichever comes last.

Woooo writing up character bios for 30 people coming to a party. Woooo chores. Woooo training bears to ride bicycles. That last one would be kinda fun except I’m not doing that. Anyway what’s it like in the future you guys? Are the new iPads cool? Do we all wear jumpsuits now? Here are links.

It’s dance party week which means I’m going to get pretty busy soon so if OTP cuts out later in the week well…I reserve the right to do that. I also reserve the right to not do that and keep this going all week so let’s see how this all works out.
The Grand Budapest Hotel
I’m sure it will shock everybody to learn that I’m totally down for this but I’m absolutely on board and maybe you somehow missed the trailer for the next Wes Anderson movie so here you are.

How we could start looking for alien transmitters in our solar system
I think we’re way better off looking for solar system sized public works projects that don’t assume alien life gives a crap about us but what the hell do I know, I don’t work for NASA and so far I haven’t proven the existence of extra terrestrials so what the hell let’s give this a shot.

Humans of New York Photographer Brandon Stanton Discusses His Work With the People of NYC
I went to highschool with Brandon and he was a pretty cool guy even back then. He did not photograph everybody and ask us interesting questions though so this was not an easy to predict career path for him.

Steve Swink’s SCALE is a Looker
I saw this at the Experimental Gameplay Workshop at GDC a few years ago and wondered what happened to it. It’s one of those game ideas that’s so basic you’re amazed nobody’s actually used it before.

Skeletor insulting his minions
I have to confess that I’ve never been a fan of He-Man (actually I’m fairly sure that’s not true but like when I WAS a fan I was young enough I remember nothing of the show) but this is…this is kinda great.

This map of gender segregation shows how New Yorkers live and die
Watch men and women flow through new york like oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. Which one is which in this weird gender essentialism metaphor? Who knows because this whole thing got away from me ages ago. It’s a cool graphic though.

“starfleet” was the only word in this comic that spell-check didn’t recognize. i fixed that.
T-Rex has a hell of a lot more fun with the revelation that all fiction is essentially a lie than Plato ever did. Also this whole topic reminds me of my favorite joke from the Daily Show’s “America: The Book” – How many of the nine supreme court justices can you name? How many members of the Brady Bunch can you name? What does this say about you?
