Leap day everybody! Real life is for March! Other 30 Rock quotes! Exclamation points! I will tell you guys: I have had a pretty shitty and unproductive day. It is now almost 5pm and my word count currently stands at 235/3000 for the day. It is the 4th quarter and…bad things are happening. I know shit about sports. The point is I am going to turn this day around and I am going to start that process by telling you guys about some sweet links. Here they come now. Continue Reading »

2 Days straight you guys! I think that’s a record for the last like…6 months or something. If the absolutely UNPRECEDENTED outpouring of support (3 separate people telling me they are glad I’m back!) is any indication, you guys have missed me. I’ve missed all of you too. I’m still trying to figure out the exact format here. Mostly trying to figure out which, if any, of the tag formats I’m going to return to and trying to decide what time of day to publish this. Did you guys like it better when it would post at midnight? I may give that a try next week when I can actually write one up on Sunday for the next day. For now let’s talk about the future and post it in the present. Continue Reading »

Who has two thumbs and isn’t dead? THIS GUY. So, remember when I did this every day and it worked just fine until I decided that it didn’t for no apparent reason and then I kept fiddling with it until I got bored with it and quit to write things I didn’t like writing nearly as much? It is just now FINALLY occurring to me that that was probably a pretty stupid choice on my part. So, we’re going to go back to the same old original OTP settings that worked just fine for forever with only one small change: I’m going to start posting stuff written by me way more often. I’m not going to do that today though because the only thing that got published today by me was a review of a pair of high end headphones for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Spoiler alert: IT’S NOT FOR YOU. …Okay I mean I guess I did link to that. But I meant in like the commentary-y part down here. Who else missed the commentary? Let’s do some. Continue Reading »

So I know not all of you guys care all that much about games but I am doing games coverage for PCWorld and in addition to telling you everything you need to know about the PS Vita (ummmm it’s a pretty good 3DS and a pretty mediocre iPhone?) I’m doing longer more OTP stuff about indie gaming and the games industry. For instance I just wrote this story about the Minecraft guy offering to fund a Psychonauts sequel and what that means for gaming. Considering the absurd money Double Fine pulled in last night with their Kickstarter ($650,000!) you can expect more stories from me about all this stuff in the next few days/weeks but in the meantime I’m still pretty proud of that story even if just a one night delay in putting it up changed it from being amazingly insightful to “why didn’t you mention Double Fine’s Kickstarter?”

Yeah okay so here’s the deal. A deal I think might actually work this time. I had it backwards. This was where I was going to put all my ideas and THEN I was going to get freelance work but it’s looking like what’s going to happen is I’m going to write a lot of things that will get posted as a freelancer and then if nobody wants it I’ll be posting it here.

Have a look at this post that just went up over on PCWorld. So it’s obviously written for people who haven’t read my ramblings for going on two years but it’s a link and a discussion I totally would have had here. Hopefully you’ll be seeing a lot of that. Then, on days where they don’t want my crazy ramblings about the future of technology, I’ll come back here and give you the ramblings you’ve come to know and love.

I’ll also be covering gaming news for PCWorld and hopefully doing some indie games/ARG coverage for them. Basically what this all means is that the time I’ve been spending writing for other blogs (check out minimumviablewardrobe.tumblr.com everybody!) is finally going to start translating into work that looks a lot more like the OTP content you’ve been missing. The downside of this is that it’ll take you a bit longer to keep track of everything I’m doing (working on ways to get around this) but the upside is that I’ll actually be paid money for writing these things. Let’s see if I can make this work.
